The Department of Biomedical Engineering is committed to being a global leader in biomedical engineering scholarship. Initial Eligibility Requirements

  • Application requirements to our graduate programs vary by degree. The following requirements apply to all graduate programs.
  • Unofficial copies of transcripts are accepted at the time of application. Students must provide official documentation of receipt of a bachelor’s degree before enrollment.
  • International applicants must submit TOEFL scores unless they have received a degree from an English-speaking institution.
  • All letters of recommendation must be on an institutional letterhead, signed, and provided with an institutional email address.

  • Application deadlines and requirements for specific degree programs are included below:
Master of Science (Non-Thesis)

  • A conventional non-thesis MS is available to students with bachelor’s degrees outside of Tulane BME. The thesis MS is typically available only by special arrangement.
  • Applications deadlines are May 1 for the following fall semester, and September 1 for the spring semester.
  • Complete applications will require transcripts; a personal statement indicating background, motivation and interest in the program, and career aspirations; and three academic and/or professional recommendations.
4+1 Master of Science (Thesis/Non-Thesis)

  • Full application submission is open October 1 with final deadline May 1. Reviews will be conducted on a rolling basis.
  • Complete applications will require transcripts; a personal statement indicating motivation and interest in the program, current research to be extended (for thesis option), and career aspirations; along with two recommendations or one recommendation from a full-time Tulane BME faculty member.
Doctor of Philosophy

  • Application deadline is January 5 for the following fall semester. Admission in the spring semester generally requires an approved prior arrangement, and so applications are accepted on a case-by-case basis.
  • Complete applications require transcripts; a personal statement indicating motivation, research experience, research interests, interest in the program, and career aspirations; and three recommendations.
  • There is no application fee.
