Faculty
Director of Center for Anatomical and Movement Sciences (CAMS)
Professor of Practice
Department of Biomedical Engineering
Dimitri Papadopoulos is the Director of CAMS and a Professor of Practice in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Tulane. A Tulane graduate, he taught anatomy and physiology courses to pre-clinical students at Delgado Community College for ten years before joining the faculty at Tulane University in 2022. He continues to expand access to CAMS through outreach to other universities and colleges in the New Orleans community, while also providing educational resources for Tulane students, faculty, and organizations such as Tulane EMS. His interests focus on anatomic and movement science as well as biomechanical design.
Professor of Practice
Department of Biomedical Engineering
Dr. Khaled Adjerid, a professor in Biomedical Engineering here at Tulane is an engineer-turned-anatomist. Dr. Adjerid has taught Anatomy, Physiology, and Biomechanics in high school, undergraduate, graduate, and medical school settings. His research background is in fluids, materials, and biomechanics with an interest in biomedical device design, bioinspiration, and biomimetics. In his most recent work, Dr. Adjerid is investigating the role of sensory stimulation in the control of swallowing in preterm infants. His work aims to identify and alleviate issues in fragile populations and having an understanding of the inherent anatomy and physiology is key to his work.
Adjunct Assistant Professor
Department of Cell and Molecular Biology
Dr. Sarah Garner is an adjunct assistant professor in the Cell & Molecular Biology Department and teaches Anatomy and Physiology Lab in the Center of Anatomical and Movement Sciences. Dr. Garner is a board-certified PA in anatomic pathology and started the first PA program in the southern United States at Tulane University School of Medicine. She obtained her PhD in medical and health professions education with a concentration in contemporary human anatomy education. Her research interests fall within anatomy education and the practice and learning of surgical pathology. Dr. Garner has taught gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, histology, general and systemic pathology, surgical pathology, and autopsy to resident physicians, medical students, PA students, and allied health students, as well as graduate and undergraduate students.
Professor Emeritus
Department of Biomedical Engineering
The advancements in cadaveric anatomy instruction at Tulane University are in large part due to the dedication and innovative leadership of Dr. Michael J. Dancisak, the longtime director of the CAMS. Since his appointment to Tulane’s Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences in 2001, Dr. Dancisak has tirelessly championed anatomy instruction for both undergraduate and graduate students in biomedical engineering and pre-clinical studies. As of January 2024, Dr. Michael Dancisak has transitioned to retirement from full-time instruction at Tulane University. However, as Professor Emeritus, his passion for cadaveric anatomy instruction remains undiminished, and he continues to actively advocate for it from his new residence in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
