SSE faculty and students are active researchers where scientists and engineers work together on thematic challenges of mutual concern and where students, regardless of their major, have the opportunity to become familiar with concepts and methods of both science and engineering. In order for SSE to address the pressing challenges of energy, health, the environment at every level of academia and our local community, there are opportunities to engage and support. To continue making an impact, we must continue to attract and retain the best faculty and students. Also, in order for our local community to thrive, we believe it is important to support K-12 STEM education. Major philanthropic gifts allow you to support the aspirations of students, attract stellar new faculty, initiate groundbreaking new programs, or transform facilities. While we feel it is important to share these funding priorities with you, please understand that every contribution is vital to SSE addressing these challenges.
Create an Endowed Fund
An endowed fund can provide lasting support for School of Science and Engineering. The income from endowed funds is used to support programs in perpetuity and can be established at different levels and formed to support scholarships, programs, or name departments.
Support a Capital Infrastructure Project
School of Science and Engineering is seeking funding for a number of one-time capital projects:
- Flower Hall for Research and Innovation
- Student Technology Incubator & Maker Space
- Renovation Funds for Stern Hall and other historic buildings
Provide for General Support
A Tulane Fund gift designated for School of Science and Engineering helps sustain faculty excellence in teaching and research by providing for academic “venture capital” in the form of start-up packages and laboratory support.
Support a Specific Project
Your gift can be designated for a specific purpose or need, such as:
- Bioinnovation Research Excellence Fund
Our faculty members work diligently to positively affect human health through bioinnovation. Through the support of donors like you, our bioinnovation program focuses on research in regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, drug delivery systems and biosensors. We currently have an interdisciplinary PhD program in bioinnovation where students embark on a science curriculum steeped in quantitative fundamentals and mathematical modeling. - Center for Technology Commercialization
Positioned well for the 21st century challenges society continues to face, SSE is on the forefront of combining all of the sciences and engineering disciplines in one home. SSE works to create an environment in which our students and faculty can engage in learning, discovery, collaboration and innovation. With your support, we can form the lasting infrastructure, programming and people necessary to support Tulane’s culture of innovation. Now is the time to increase the intensity and impact of Tulane’s role in technology commercialization. - Center for K-12 STEM Education
The Tulane University Center for K-12 STEM Education is educating the next generation of entrepreneurs, innovators, researchers, engineers and scientists and has inspired over 6,200 middle and high school students and teachers. From courses and workshops for students to professional development for teachers, the center offers diverse activities during the academic year and through the summer. Through your support, SSE plays a vital role in the educational success and economic longevity of the Gulf South region. - Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases
Tulane researchers from SSE and the School of Medicine are all working on projects studying cause, treatment and care for neurodegenerative disease. From Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) to stroke, our researchers are trying to find answers to these debilitating diseases. With your help, SSE could create a multidisciplinary plan that would form teams of investigators. This collaboration could take us one step further in finding answers. - Computer Science Department
After being forced to close following Hurricane Katrina, computer science is making a comeback at Tulane. The coordinate major was added in 2014, but with your help we can establish a Ph.D. program, increase the number of computer science faculty, expand research, and develop a stand-alone major. SSE is primed to leverage our existing excellence in the fields of biomedical engineering, computer science, neuroscience and psychology to study the link between technology and human behavior. With your help we can create a nationally competitive program that prepares students to apply computer science to solve the largest technical problems and pioneer technologies that leverage and extend human capabilities.

Philanthropy provides students and faculty opportunities for learning and discovery in science and engineering by supporting an environment that is student focused, research intensive, transdisciplinary, entrepreneurial, and responsive to the needs of the community. Donations have supported the annual fund, specific departments or initiatives, created named endowments, or the Dean's fund. Each and every contribution is vital to advancing science and engineering at Tulane!
Flower Hall
Many thanks to the Alumni and Friends who supported the $7.4 million infrastructure project that empowers new ideas and solutions in the fields of energy, health, and the environment from the Departments of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Chemistry. Donna and Paul Flower Hall for Research and Innovation opened in December 2012 and has the capacity for four floors of teaching and research laboratories and office space. Your support provides Tulane's students with a research-rich environment in which to prepare for careers at the forefront of scientific and technological innovation.
