Opportunities exist every semester for undergraduates to pursue research in water-related issues supervised by RCSE faculty members. This can take the form of participating in externally funded research as part of that faculty member’s lab group, or independent research conceived of by the student and brought to the faculty for guidance. All of our faculty have supervised undergrad research projects, including Honors theses and Independent Studies. Students are encouraged to reach out to the RCSE faculty member that most closely fits their interest to determine how to move forward. Many of the undergraduate students we have collaborated with have presented their research at local, regional and national conferences, have served as authors on peer-reviewed publications, and have also had the opportunity to participate in field work. Students are also encouraged to consult with your major advisor about potential coursework credit.
The department is able to supply limited funds to support undergraduate research projects. Students apply for these funds by submitting a short proposal to the Chair (meadallison@tulane.edu) detailing what the research encompasses, why the funding is needed, and how it will be used.
