Congratulations to Vinoin Devpaul Vincely, Ph.D.
February, 2026
Vinoin Devpaul Vincely, Ph.D., received $3,000 from the Innovation Institute for his project, “Seeing Oxygen, Saving Lives: A Wearable Photoacoustic Patch for Fetal Monitoring.” As an Innovation Fellow at the Tulane University Innovation Institute and a proud alumnus of Tulane’s Biomedical Engineering Ph.D. program, Dr. Vincely has consistently advanced research at the intersection of optics, ultrasound, and clinical translation. During his doctoral training in Dr. Carolyn Bayer’s lab, he focused on progressing photoacoustic imaging toward real-world adoption, securing Provost Proof of Concept funding to develop a portable photoacoustic imaging device for point-of-care hypoxia monitoring and earning multiple Open MIC awards. This recognition reflects Dr. Vincely’s continued leadership, technical excellence, and dedication to translating Tulane-based research into impactful healthcare solutions. We congratulate him on this achievement and look forward to the ongoing impact of his work.

Awards
Each Spring, we recognize a few of our students and faculty for their achievements. Some of the awards presented highlight specific accomplishments, and others are presented in recognition of accomplishments spanning several years. We are proud to list the names of the people we have recognized in past years and believe that their subsequent accomplishments were foretold in the recognitions they earned as students.
Undergraduate Student Achievement Awards
This award recognizes the efforts of our biomedical engineering seniors who have participated in a year-long team design project. Team design projects enable Biomedical Engineering students to use the knowledge and skills acquired in earlier course work. Teams incorporate appropriate engineering standards and realistic constraints while they produce designs that address healthcare-related needs.
During the spring semester, the team designs are presented in a public show, and evaluated by a panel of judges, and we generally honor the team with the highest score by presenting certificates to the winners.
From 1993-2005, teams were able to count on the assistance of Kenneth H. Kuhn, our biomedical engineering lab coordinator and instructor who provided invaluable assistance to our students as they sought to take their ideas and make them into workable devices. The award was named in Kenny's honor in 2006.
