Shusheng Wang, Ph.D. | Principal Investigator
Shusheng Wang received his PhD in developmental biology at Tulane University in New Orleans in 2004. After completion his postdoctoral training with Dr. Eric Olson at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, he joined the department of Ophthalmology as a tenure track assistant professor in September 2009. His research is to explore the mechanism and potential therapeutics of noncoding RNAs and transcriptional factors in angiogenesis and degenerative retinal diseases.
Zunyi (Johnny) Zhang, Ph. D. | Research Assistant Professor
Dr. Zhang got his PhD in Developmental Biology in the University of Oslo in Norway. He is currently working on the mechanism of RPE senescence in the lab.
Bo Yu, Ph. D. | Postdoctoral Fellow
Bo Yu got his bachelor degree from Ocean University of China in 2007. He received his Ph.D. in Genetics from Sun Yat-sen University in 2012. He works as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr.Wang’s lab in the areas of long non-coding RNA and Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD).
Yao Tong, M.S. | PhD Student (2017- now)
Yao is working on the mechanism of RPE cell death and it implication in AMD. She was awarded the American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR) Scholarship for Research in the biology of aging in 2019
Yinga Wu, M.S. | PhD Student (2018- now)
Yinga is working on the mechanism of retinal fibrosis and it implication in AMD.

Qinbo Zhou Ph.D. | Postdoctoral Fellow
Qinbo graduated from Zhejiang University in 2001. He received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shanghai, China in 2009. He has worked as a Postdoctoral fellow in the lab on microRNA and vascular retinopathy.
Jakub Hanus Ph.D. | Research Assistant Professor
Jakub received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the Maria Sklodowska-Curie Memorial Cancer Center and Institute of Oncology Gliwice Branch, Poland in 2010. In the same year he started Postdoctoral training at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas in Department of Molecular Biology, and later Department of Ophthalmology. He has worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow and was promoted to Research Assistant Professor in 2016 in the lab. His work is focused on mechanism of RPE cell death and the role of chromatin remodeling proteins in angiogenesis.
