My Research
After obtaining my MS in Oceanography from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (FURG) in Brazil, I came to Tulane to work with Dr. Alex Kolker (LUMCON and Tulane). My research aims to identify the seasonal and annual spatial variability of the Mississippi River plume and the drivers of that variability in the Gulf of Mexico. Specifically, I study the dynamics of the Mississippi and Atchafalaya River plumes through reanalysis ocean model outputs, Army Corps of Engineers discharge data, as well as NCEP/NCAR climatological reanalysis outputs. The location and concentration of freshwater inputs to the Gulf of Mexico are of particular importance to coastal Louisiana, for understanding hypoxic conditions off the coast and monitoring the health of fish, oyster, and shrimp populations.
