EENS Alumni Spotlight: Anabel Kadri (BS 2025)

Where has your degree taken you?

Since graduating from Tulane, I worked as a Field Technician with Mass Audubon where I supported a large-scale salt marsh restoration project across 1,450 acres of the Great Marsh. My work primarily focused on ditch remediation to restore the marsh’s natural hydrology and improve habitat for the Saltmarsh Sparrow. Since finishing that position, I am now a Program Assistant for the Restoration Team at the Chesapeake Bay Trust, where I assist with grant management for restoration projects across the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

What was your favorite class that you took at Tulane?

My favorite class at Tulane was the Grand Canyon class. Not only was the course itself very interesting, but it also included a week-long rafting trip through the Grand Canyon. Being able to apply what we learned in class while experiencing one of the most incredible geological landscapes in the world with my peers and professors made it an unforgettable experience.

What is your favorite memory, in or out of the classroom, during your time at Tulane?

Some of my favorite memories at Tulane come from the time I spent doing fieldwork on Louisiana’s barrier islands. I had the opportunity to assist a post-doc in my lab with a research project measuring greenhouse gas fluxes in marsh and mangrove ecosystems. We would take a boat out to the island in the morning, often spotting dolphins along the way and then spending the day collecting data in the marsh. It was my first real fieldwork experience, and being out there studying the ecosystems I had been learning about firsthand was really exciting and motivating.

What advice would you give to current students in our department?

My advice would be to really take advantage of all the resources that the department has to offer. Join a lab and get involved in research if that interests you, build relationships with professors, and just hop on opportunities to learn outside of the classroom whenever possible. These experiences not only help you build connections and skills but give you a better idea of what you would like to pursue after graduation.
