A central part of our mission is translating academic, research, and instructional needs into practical facilities and laboratory solutions.

We work closely with faculty, researchers, staff, department leadership, and university partners to support instructional laboratories, research spaces, and new or expanding programs.

Our responsibilities include coordinating laboratory and office renovations, supporting new faculty start-up projects, and representing the School of Science and Engineering on construction and capital improvement initiatives. We collaborate with Tulane Capital Projects, architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to help ensure that projects meet programmatic requirements, budgets, schedules, and applicable codes and standards.
 

Our team supports space management across the Science and Engineering complex with an emphasis on the efficient, safe, compliant, and mission-aligned use of facilities.

We also assist with forecasting operational and capital needs, prioritizing infrastructure investments, administering outside service contracts, and identifying opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and long-term value.

Safety is an integral component of our facilities and laboratory operations.

We work closely with Tulane’s Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) and Life Safety to support compliance with applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, building and fire codes, environmental regulations, and university policies.

Our work supports laboratory safety, hazardous materials management, waste handling, life-safety systems, facility access, and other programs designed to maintain a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, researchers, and visitors.

Our team coordinates the decommissioning of laboratory spaces as research programs change, relocate, or conclude.

These activities are conducted in coordination with OEHS, university partners, and qualified external vendors to reduce risk, maintain regulatory compliance, and ensure that spaces are ready for renovation, reassignment, or future research activities.
 

Facilities, Instrumentation, and Safety also supports the School’s Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accreditation and continuous improvement efforts.

Our team helps ensure that instructional laboratories, facilities, equipment, and safety practices support applicable accreditation requirements. We assist with documentation related to facilities, maintenance, safety compliance, equipment, and laboratory readiness, and work with faculty and academic leadership during accreditation reviews.

Our goal is to ensure that the physical environment and supporting infrastructure effectively contribute to student learning, academic programs, and research excellence.
