To be considered for our graduate programs, a student must have:
1. Earned an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution prior to the first semester of proposed graduate study, except for qualified undergraduate students applying from the accelerated “4+1” MS programs
2. A minimum 3.0 cumulative gradate point average in undergraduate coursework*
*Some applicants with less than a 3.0 cumulative grade point average may be considered for admission based on other factors of their applications.
3. The School of Science and Engineering does not require GRE scores for review by the department. Applicants who have taken the GRE may include their scores on the application.

Student copies (unofficial copies) of your transcript are acceptable during the application process. Admitted students must submit official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions to register for classes. Official transcripts must be sent from the university/college or a third party vendor such as Parchment.

* Please note that the application deadline is for you to submit your application on time. Recommenders can submit their recommendation letters after you submit your application and after the application deadline.
Students who receive financial support and/or special tuition discounts will have this information included in their award/admission letter.
You are required to notify the Tulane Financial Aid Office of your receipt of school/program awards, as they will need this information to determine your eligibility for any federal assistance (U.S. residents).
Tulane Science & Engineering Accelerated “4+1” Programs
Qualified Tulane Science & Engineering students and consortium students may have an opportunity to earn a master’s degree in one year following the completion of their bachelor’s degree. School of Science & Engineering allows up to six (6) credit hours of graduate credit to be counted toward both the undergraduate and graduate degree for students admitted to the Accelerated (4+1) MS programs. If a student takes additional graduate credit above the 120 hours required for the undergraduate degree, up to six (6) additional credit hours may be counted toward the graduate degree for a maximum of twelve (12) credits.
Admissions Requirements:
Students must have earned a minimum of 75 credits towards a bachelor’s degree, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Other prerequisites may be required. Interested students are advised to consult with the Director of MS Studies in the academic department at the start of their junior year to maximize the benefits of the accelerated MS program. The Dual Credit Form must be signed by the Director of MS Studies for the graduate program and by the Associate Dean for MS Programs to ensure the graduate credit is appropriately assigned to the undergraduate and/or graduate degrees. The student must submit the form as part of their application to the MS program.
Incentive for Students
1. Enrollment deposit is waived.
2. If a student completes 12 credits of graduate credit while they are an undergraduate student, they have 18 credits remaining for the MS degree, which can be completed in one year.
3. A student can complete the MS degree in one year for $34,070* (2026-2027 tuition)
For Tulane 4+1 students, once you are officially enrolled as a 4+1 MS graduate student, you will no longer be eligible for your undergraduate financial aid scholarships. Tulane 4+1 students must graduate with their undergraduate degree from Tulane prior to formally being enrolled in the 4+1 Master's program.
All Undergraduate tuition scholarships and awards are not applicable toward the tuition for the MS or PhD programs within SSE.

MS Student Support
The MS Programs are tuition-based programs, and students are required to pay tuition and all required fees. The latest information regarding tuition rates and fees can be found on the Tulane Accounts Receivable page. Government employees enrolled in any Tulane Science & Engineering MS programs are eligible for a reduced tuition rate.
Higher education is an investment in your future. You may be eligible for financial aid to help cover the costs of tuition, books, fees, or other expenses associated with your education. Students seeking financial aid to help pay for the master’s program should visit the Office of Financial Aid page for School of Science & Engineering Students. US residents can apply for federal student loans and other support by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The School of Science and Engineering offers a few scholarships for MS Programs. Teaching or research assistantships to students in the MS programs are generally not offered.
Students awarded a scholarship or special financial support, will be notified in their offer of admission that will be posted in your status portal.
Any Special Tuition Rates and/or Special Scholarships that are included in your letter of admission for an MS program within the School of Science and Engineering are not transferable to another program. Any support offered is program-specific and not transferable (including assistance provided within the same department and similar program).
Ph.D. Student Support
The School of Science and Engineering offers Teaching Assistantships and/or Research Assistantships to all incoming PhD students. PhD students are typically admitted with a full tuition waiver, 50% support toward the purchase of a Tulane-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (T-SHIP) health insurance plan and a stipend that is associated with either a Teaching Assistantship or Research Assistantship. Incoming PhD students are expected to pay the academic service, student activity, and recreation center fees that are billed during the fall and spring semesters.
Scholarships 360
Tulane University partners with Scholarships 360 to provide current and prospective students with access to external scholarship opportunities to help cover their cost of attendance. Graduate students should be sure to search by grade level to find scholarships to help pay for the MS programs.
Yellow Ribbon Program
Tulane School of Science & Engineering participates in the Post-9/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program and provides up to $5,000 per year for 20 graduate students. More information about the Yellow Ribbon Program is on the Office of the Registrar’s page.

We do not charge application fees for PhD programs, MS programs or Graduate Certificate programs.
Yes, you can apply to more than one program. You will need to complete an application for each program.
We do not require official transcripts to apply to a program. However, if you are accepted into the program, you must submit official transcripts to Tulane School of Science and Engineering before you register for your graduate coursework. The address and information required to submit official transcripts is included in the letters of admission.
Yes, you can send us your current transcript. Your official transcript with the degree posted must be sent from your institution prior to beginning your graduate program. If you have not graduated with your bachelor's degree, your admission will be revoked, as you cannot pursue your graduate degree unless you have already earned your undergraduate degree.
Yes, you should submit your application. The application deadline applies to the applicant and not the recommenders/references. Your references/recommenders will be able to respond and upload their recommendation letters to your application after the deadline.
No, recommendation letters should come from the recommenders themselves. If they have any issues or concerns with the emailed link, they can email their recommendation letter to segrad@tulane.edu, and it will be uploaded to your application. Make sure they include your full name in the email so that the correct application will be updated.
No. However, it is helpful to identify at least one faculty member who has a background and research in the area in which you are most interested in studying.
The GRE is not required.
English Language Proficiency
All graduate applicants are required to demonstrate English proficiency for admission consideration. There are two ways to meet this English language proficiency requirement:
- Prior education – A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited university located in the U.S or another country in which English is both the primary spoken language of daily life and the language of instruction or at least two years of full-time study at such an institution. If you meet either of these criteria, you are exempted from submitting English proficiency test scores. Please be sure to include such information and transcripts in your application.
- Exam score – If you do not meet the criteria in 1, you must certify proficiency in English when you apply. Tulane University accepts the Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) and International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic exams.
• Minimum overall score on TOEFL iBT: 87.
• Minimum overall band score on IELTS Academic: 7.0.
• This requirement applies to U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents as well as international applicants.
• If you are admitted, you may also be required to confirm your proficiency prior to arrival.
You can report other ESL test score reports, but TOEFL and IELTS scores are the only scores that are accepted by Tulane School of Science and Engineering Graduate Programs.

* Because TOEFL and IELTS are not required, all international students who are accepted into a School of Science and Engineering PhD program must complete an online summer ESL Evaluation Course during the month of July. The 10-hour (2-week) assessment course will determine which students must take additional ESL courses during their first year of graduate studies (no exceptions).

Master's Degrees and Certificate Programs:
For Spring 2027, priority consideration will be given to applications received by December 1, 2026. .
For Fall 2027, applications received by April 15th will be considered for available scholarships. The last day to apply is July 1, 2027
PhD Degrees:
Deadlines will vary by program.
You can check your status using the status portal that is created once you submit your application. Applications are typically reviewed after the application deadline. Most graduate admissions decisions are made on or before April 15th.
