Tulane Center for K-12 STEM Education Intern Application
40-hour service learning course or 70-hour internship opportunities are available with the K-12 STEM Education for the Spring 2026 semester. Work with the Center for K-12 STEM Education in the School of Science and Engineering to engage with local K-12 students and help them see the exciting opportunities that await them in STEM.
Through this internship you will:
• Work with Tulane graduate students to facilitate hands-on activities in local New Orleans middle school classrooms. The hours and schedule are flexible within the bounds of the normal K-12 school day and after-school programs (8am-4:30pm). We ask that you have one day (40-hour) or two days (70-hour) where you have a 3 hour block available during the school day to help with these activities.
• Coordinate aspects of Girls in STEM at Tulane (GiST) and Boys At Tulane in STEM (BATS) such as photography, group leaders, welcome tables, and volunteers
• Support and volunteer at community STEM events such as the Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair, FIRST Lego League, FIRST Robotics and school STEM nights
• Working with the Center can satisfy either the lower-tier or upper-tier service learning requirement:
• For the 40-hour service learning course, students must complete at least 40 hours of service and attend a 1-credit seminar once a week (SCEN 2070/2890)
• For the 70-hour internship, students must complete at least 70 hours of service and attend a 3-credit internship seminar once a week (SCEN 4570/SRVC 4890)
• The seminar for both tiers will take place on Tuesdays from 5-6pm.
