Summer Teacher PD
STEM teachers are invited to participate in Tulane's teacher professional development workshops this summer! Thanks to the generosity of Shell and The Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation, we are offering two 2-day on-campus workshops. We are also offering one 3-day in-person workshop thanks to the National Academies' Gulf Research Program.
June 10-12: Exploring Coastal Deltaic Issues in the Mississippi Gulf Region
Join the Center for K-12 STEM Education team, LSU Center for River Studies, and National Academies' Gulf Research program to learn about current coastal deltaic issues in the region, and how to introduce and engage students in understanding how these issues impact their lives.
- The 3-day workshop will be held on Tulane University's Campus.
- Upon completion, teachers will receive a $300 stipend and materials to take back to their schools that align with Louisiana's science and teaching standards to engage their students on the impacts this problem poses on natural resources and resource management in the region.
June 17-18: Exploring Coding and Robotics with LEGO Spike Prime - Grades 4-8! (In-Person)
Join the Center for K-12 STEM Education team as we learn and play with the LEGO Spike Prime robots! Expand your coding skills as you learn to use the Spike Prime app and program the Spike Prime robots. You will also learn about the free LEGO curriculum available and how to start a FIRST LEGO League team at your school.
- We are offering a two-day in-person professional development workshop totaling 9-12 hours. The 12-hour PD will be for rookie coaches who want to learn more about the FIRST LEGO League Challenge, whereas the 9-hour PD is for teachers who want to learn how to use Spike Prime but have coached a FIRST LEGO League Challenge team before.
- Participating teachers will receive a $150 (9 hours) or $200 (12 hours) stipend upon completion of the PD. A $20 refundable deposit will be refunded to teachers upon completion of the PD.
June 23- 25: EiE: Engineering is Elementary
Are you looking to enhance your engineering and computer science teaching skills? The Tulane University Center for K-12 Education will offer 6 teacher professional training sessions in Engineering is Elementary (EiE) curriculum for grades K-5 in partnership with LASTEM Region 8 Center (SCILS) and Louisiana Tech University (LA Tech).
These training sessions are designed to equip educators with the knowledge and strategies needed to implement high-quality, standards-aligned engineering and STEM curricula in their classrooms. Through engaging activities and hands-on experiences, participants will gain valuable insights into fostering a generation of problem solvers and engineers.
For each 3-hour workshop session that you participate in, you will receive a grade-level kit AND a $150 stipend. You can enroll in one or all the grade level trainings offered below. Lunch will be provided each day.
