Ph.D. Admissions Information

The Tulane Mathematics Ph.D. program offers full funding (tuition waiver plus stipend) to all admitted students. We welcome applications from students with strong backgrounds in mathematics or related fields.

Application Deadline: December 5

For Fall admission. No application fee is required.

Application Requirements

A complete application for the Ph.D. program in Mathematics includes the following:

  • An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is normally required. In accordance with School of Science and Engineering policy, applicants below 3.0 may still be considered based on the strength of their overall application.
  • At least three letters of recommendation from individuals who can evaluate your academic potential.
  • An online application form submitted through the university portal.
  • All applicants must demonstrate English proficiency under the School of Science and Engineering's requirements. Accepted tests include TOEFL iBT, IELTS Academic, and the Duolingo English Test. Applicants who meet SSE's prior-education exemption criteria do not need to submit test scores. English-medium instruction alone does not establish eligibility for this exemption. See the SSE admissions page for current minimum scores and exemption criteria.
  • Optional: You are encouraged to submit any additional materials (CV, research papers, etc.) that may strengthen your application directly to the Director of Graduate Admission.
  • The GRE Test is not required for admission to any of our graduate programs.
