Transfer Credits & Advising
Undergraduate Transfer Credit Policies
Students planning to take mathematics courses at external institutions (e.g., during the summer) or transfer credit from prior universities must follow the official approval process to ensure the courses count toward degree requirements.
How to Submit Credits for Approval
To validate transfer credits in mathematics, you must complete the following steps before registering for the external course:
1
Obtain the Form
Visit the Newcomb-Tulane College (NTC) Academic Advising Center to obtain a copy of the official Transfer Credit Approval Form (TCAF).
2
Collect Course Documentation
Gather the host institution's course description, the full course syllabus (detailing the textbook used, topics covered, and grading scheme), and the academic calendar type (e.g., semesters vs. quarters).
3
Submit for Review
Send the TCAF and supporting materials to the Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS), Dr. Michelle Lacey (mlacey1@tulane.edu), for evaluation.
4
Form Processing
If approved, the signed form will be returned to you. Submit it to NTC Advising to complete the transfer credit registry.
Key Transfer Rules & Guidelines
- Accreditation: External courses must be completed at an accredited four-year college or university.
- Comparability: The course must match the mathematical depth, rigor, and content of the corresponding Tulane mathematics course.
- Summer Course Duration: Summer programs must meet minimum duration requirements (typically at least five weeks).
- Pre-Approval: We strongly advise obtaining signature pre-approval before taking external courses to ensure they qualify for transfer credit.
