Tulane students’ design for innovative lunar rover selected as finalist in NASA contest
A design for a plutonium-powered rover to hunt for water on the icy southernmost-tip of the moon has landed a team of Tulane students among finalists in a NASA contest to develop innovative new concepts for exploring the solar system.
The five Tulane engineering physics students will compete next week as one of 14 teams in the NASA Revolutionary Aerospace Systems concepts – Academic Linkage (RASC-AL) competition, a yearly competition for undergraduate and graduate students across the United States.
Tulane Professor Matthew Escarra and his team of students innovate new solar technology with the "Sunflower Receiver" atop Flower Hall
Blooming high atop Tulane University's Donna and Paul Flower Hall— innovation turns into ‘eco-vation’ via a futuristic-looking solar energy conversion system named the “Sunflower Receiver,” which successfully harvests sunlight to generate electricity and heat.
Tulane School of Science and Engineering announces new engineering minors for fall 2024
In the fall 2024 semester, undergraduates at Tulane University will have three new options for minors in the School of Science and Engineering (SSE): mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and materials engineering.
Forging an inclusive physics community at Tulane
In January, undergraduate students from around the Gulf Coast region came to Tulane for the Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics, or CUWiP, an annual event hosted by the American Physical Society (APS) at university campuses around the country. The next event will be renamed the Conference for Undergraduate Women and Gender Minorities in Physics as part of APS’ Gender Inclusive Physics Community initiative.
Fluence Analytics becomes one of Tulane’s most successful spinouts — and ‘great example of what is possible’
In 1997, Tulane University physics professor Wayne Reed developed a technology in his lab to make the production of polymers — which are used to create plastics and other widely used products — greener and more efficient.
Reed’s technology, known as Automatic Continuous Online Monitoring of Polymerization (ACOMP), also aims to improve product quality and enable the manufacture of more sophisticated polymers, while reducing emissions and energy consumption and increasing the safety of workers and surrounding communities.
