Congratulations to SSE student Maryann Lorino for being named a 2024 Marshall Scholar!

About the Marshall Scholarship:
The Marshall Scholarship promotes mutual understanding between the British and American people. Every year, 50 new scholars are invited to pursue 2-3 years of fully funded graduate studies in the UK in any field of their choice while developing strong academic and professional relations. During their time in the UK, the scholars also experience deep cultural immersion and create personal connections with their host communities. Marshall Scholars strength the special relationship between the British and American people, their governments, and their institutions.

About Maryann:
Mary is a senior from Birmingham, Alabama majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Cell and Molecular Biology. On campus, Mary is an undergraduate researcher in Dr. Maria Galazo’s lab where she studies the mechanisms underpinning neurodevelopmental disorders. She has also conducted research with neurologist, Dr. Kaitlin Seibert at the University of Chicago. Outside of research, Mary is a General Chemistry Lab Teaching Assistant and Co-President of the SSE Student Government. She is also involved in Tulane’s Synthetic Biology Club and The Research Ambassadors. As a Marshall Scholar, Mary will pursue degrees in Integrative Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine at The University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
