Summer Teacher PD

STEM teachers are invited to participate in Tulane's teacher professional development workshops this summer! Thanks to the generosity of Shell and The Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation, we are offering two 2-day on-campus workshops and one 2-day virtual professional development workshops.

June 2022 PD

June 22-23: Explore Coding and Robotics with LEGO® Spike Prime Essential* (In-Person at Tulane's Uptown Campus!) – Grades 1st-4th
  • Join the Center for K-12 STEM Education team as we learn and play with the Lego® Spike Prime Essential robots! Expand your coding skills as you learn to use the Spike Prime app and program the Spike Prime Essential robots. You will also learn about the free LEGO® curriculum available and how to start a First Lego League Explore team at your school.
  • The two-day in-person professional development workshop will total 10 hours.  The 10-hour PD will be for rookie coaches who want to learn more about FIRST LEGO League Explore, whereas the 8-hour PD is for teachers who want to learn how to use Spike Prime Essential but have coached a FIRST LEGO League Explore team before. Teachers will receive a $100 (8 hours) or $150 (10 hours) stipend upon completion of the PD.

The 12-hour PD will be for rookie coaches who want to learn more about FIRST LEGO League Challenge, whereas the 9-hour PD is for teachers who want to learn how to use Spike Prime but have coached a FIRST LEGO League Challenge team before.  Teachers will receive a $150 (9 hours) or $200 (12 hours) stipend upon completion of the PD.

July 2022 PD

July 13-14: Integrating Mathematics in Your Science Classroom – Grades 5th-8th (VIRTUAL)
  • Join the Tulane Center for K-12 STEM Education team as we explore how to integrate mathematics concepts and skills in the science classroom to demonstrate to students how both fields help us better understand our world.
  • The two-day virtual professional development workshop will be a mix of synchronous (9:00-11:00 am both days) and asynchronous sessions and will total 6 hours of time. Teachers will receive a $125 stipend upon completion of the PD.
