Tulane SSE's 4+1 pathway allows qualified undergraduates to earn both a bachelor's and a master's degree in just five years, rather than the six or more years typically required to complete the two degrees separately. Students take graduate-level coursework during their senior year that counts toward both degrees, saving significant time and tuition costs compared to enrolling in a master's program after graduation. Career-wise, the accelerated master's degree gives students a competitive edge in the job market, often qualifying them for higher starting salaries and more advanced roles right out of school. The pathway also lets students deepen their expertise in a specialized area while remaining in a familiar academic environment, working with faculty they already know and continuing research they may have started as undergraduates. For students who know early on that they want to pursue graduate study, the 4+1 offers a faster, more affordable, and more seamless route to an advanced degree.
