Tim M. Berra, who received a PhD in biology from Tulane University in 1969, and who is professor emeritus in the Department of Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology at The Ohio State University, will visit Tulane March 28–29 to give two lectures.

Tulane University website has a new look
You may have noticed something different when you visited Tulane.edu in the past few days. The main university website, news and magazine sites, and events sites all have a fresh new look.
The design updates include some new complementary colors. Our digital design typefaces weren’t left out, either, with both a new, modern serif and sans serif look to keep things feeling current. We are testing these new colors and fonts, along with some other template upgrades, for a potential rollout to our units’ Drupal websites as well.
Pregnancy disorder subject of new Tulane study
An imaging technique used to detect some forms of cancer can also help detect preeclampsia in pregnancy before it becomes a life-threatening condition, a new Tulane study says.
Preelcampsia is a hypertensive disorder that accounts for 14 percent of global maternal deaths annually and affects 5 to 8 percent of all pregnancies. Symptoms may include high blood pressure and protein in the urine and typically occurs after the 20th week of pregnancy.

Tulane to begin new master’s program in materials engineering
The Tulane University School of Science and Engineering is launching a new master’s program designed to help graduates land careers in such fields as biotechnology, aerospace, defense, information technologies and energy.
The Master of Science Degree in Materials Science and Engineering will kick off at the beginning of the 2019-20 academic year. It is an interdisciplinary degree that will focus on developing a deep understanding of materials modeling, processing, structure, properties and performance required to solve complex technological problems.
