River-Coastal Science and Engineering Graduate Certificate
Tulane University and the U.S. Army Engineer Corps of Engineers have partnered to provide a unique, graduate-level certificate program that focuses on teaching students both the science and engineering associated with river and coastal management. There is an emphasis on the academic underpinnings as well as pragmatic applications, and the interdisciplinary nature of rivers and coasts are stressed by including faculty who work in geology, civil engineering, geomorphology, river mechanics and engineering, biogeochemistry, ecology and numerical modeling. This program is offered fully remote, combining self-taught modules with weekly online Live Sessions and is available to students everywhere. This certificate program can, but does not have to, serve as a step toward a graduate degree in the subject. Students completing the certificate may apply the full 15 hours towards an RCSE MS or PhD.

Cirriculum Requirements
The certificate requires 15 credit hours, built around one or both of two required introductory courses, Intro to River Science & Engineering and Introduction to Coastal Science and Engineering, plus additional advanced courses drawn from topics like fluid mechanics, hydrology, coastal marine geology, river mechanics, and estuarine processes. Students are expected to complete the introductory courses before moving into advanced coursework, and the program runs on Tulane's standard fall and spring semester schedule, fully remote with weekly live sessions.
FAQs
This certificate is designed for non-resident, early-career professionals, though it is available to resident students as well. This certificate is customizable by students in riverine or coastal topics, or a blend of the two. These credits can also apply toward a graduate degree in RCSE, including a non-resident M.S. program.
