Biography

Dr. Jeffrey G. Agnew is a Senior Professor of Practice in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Tulane University and a Suzanne & Stephen Weiss Presidential Fellow for Teaching Excellence. He also serves as Associate Department Chair, Chair of the Undergraduate Committee, and Faculty Advisor for the Earth Science Club.

He earned his Ph.D. in Geology from Louisiana State University in 2008, following an M.S. in Geological Sciences from the University of Florida (2001) and a B.S. in Geology from Central Michigan University (1996).

Dr. Agnew teaches courses such as Physical Geology, Physical Geology Lab, and Shark Paleobiology, and his research interests include Geoscience Education, Paleobiology, Paleoecology, Taphonomy, and Taxonomy, with a focus on fossil decapod crustaceans and innovative strategies for undergraduate geoscience recruitment.

His work has contributed to advancing geoscience education through projects like LaURGE: Louisiana Undergraduate Recruitment and Geoscience Education and studies applying machine learning to fossil identification. Dr. Agnew is committed to fostering student engagement and hands-on learning experiences that prepare graduates for careers in Earth and environmental sciences.
