Applications for Graduate Admissions
Applications for 2026 open in September 2025.
Before you click on the Apply Button, you will first need to create an account on the application website. Once you start the application, please review the list below:
1) Personal Statement: All of the graduate applications for the School of Science and Engineering require a Personal Statement. Please read the prompt provided within the application before writing your personal statement.
2) References/Recommenders: All applications require you to provide information for your references. Make sure that you have the correct contact information for each of your references. An incorrect email address for your references will delay your application from being reviewed by the admissions committee. Recommendation Letters should be sent directly from the reference using the special link that is provided for them within the Slate application. If a reference is having an issue connecting to Slate using their special link and/or uploading their recommendation letter, they can contact segrad@tulane.edu
* Please note that the application deadline is for your to submit your application on time. Recommenders can submit their recommendation letters after you submit your application and after the application deadline.
3) Transcripts: Student copies (unofficial copies) of your transcript are acceptable during the application process. If admitted into the program, then an official transcript must be received by the Dean's Office from the sending institution prior to beginning your program of study. Minimum GPA of a 3.0 is required for admission to both MS and PhD graduate programs within the School of Science and Engineering. You will be required to have completed your bachelors degree prior to beginning your graduate program.
4) GRE: The School of Science and Engineering does not require GRE scores in order for you to submit your application for review by the department. If you have taken the GRE, please include the score on your application.
Important Information
For all programs, you must have earned your bachelor's degree prior to applying to the graduate program. Your undergraduate degree must be posted on your official transcript prior to enrolling in graduate program coursework.
For Tulane 4+1 students, once you are officially enrolled as a 4+1 MS graduate student, you will no longer be eligible for your undergraduate financial aid scholarships. Tulane 4+1 students must graduate with their undergraduate degree from Tulane prior to formally being enrolled in the 4+1 Master's program.
Students who receive financial support and/or special tuition discounts will have this information included in their award/admission letter.
You are required to notify the Tulane Financial Aid Office of your receipt of school/program awards, as they will need this information to determine your eligibility for any federal assistance (US Residents).
All Undergraduate tuition scholarships and awards are not applicable toward the tuition for the 4+1 MS / MS or PhD programs within SSE
The Tulane Louisiana Promise is only for the undergraduate programs and does not include the 4+1/MS or PhD programs within the School of Science and Engineering.

MS Student Support
The MS Programs are tuition based programs and students are required to pay tuition and all required fees. Tulane Accounts Receivable has the latest information regarding tuition rates and fees.
The tuition for 2024-2025 academic year is $2,027 per credit hour (this rate does not include the required fees) - Tulane Accounts Receivable Tuition Information
4+1 MS Graduate Programs for Tulane Students - Tulane students need to speak with their Tulane department advisor regarding the admissions requirements and tuition for the 4+1 MS Program.
The School of Science and Engineering offers a few partial scholarships for graduate student Master's Programs. Master's Programs are tuition based programs with the average tuition of $60,810 per year (which does not include the required fees). Students can receive a discounted tuition rate based on the recommendation of the department.
We do not offer teaching or research assistantships to students in the MS programs. We do not have separate applications or forms for tuition assistance or support.
If you are offered a scholarship or special financial support, it will be included in your offer of admission that will be posted in your status portal.
Any Special Tuition Rates and/or Special Scholarships that are included in your letter of admission for a MS program within the School of Science and Engineering are not transferrable to another program. Any support offered is program specific and not transferrable (including assistance provided within the same department and similar program).
Tulane Financial Aid has resources for School of Science and Engineering graduate students seeking information on FAFSA and Student Loans. International students do not have FAFSA as an option, but may qualify for student loans.
US residents can apply for federal student loans and other support by completing the (Free Application for Federal Student Aide) FAFSA.
PhD Student Support
The School of Science and Engineering offers Teaching Assistantships and/or Research Assistantships to all incoming PhD students. PhD students are typically admitted with a full tuition waiver, 50% support toward the purchase of a T-SHIP health insurance plan and a stipend that is associated with either a Teaching Assistantship or Research Assistantship. Incoming PhD students are expected to pay the academic service, student activity and recreation center fees that are billed during the fall and spring semesters.

We do not charge application fees for PhD programs, MS programs or Graduate Certificate programs.
Yes, you can apply to more than one program. You will need to complete an application for each program.
No, we do not require official transcripts to apply to a program. If you are accepted into the program, you will have to request official transcripts to be sent to Tulane School of Science and Engineering before you register for your graduate coursework. The address and information required to submit official transcripts is included in the letters of admission.
Yes, you can use your current transcript. You must submit your transcript with the degree posted prior to beginning your graduate program. If you have not graduated with your bachelor's degree, your admission will be revoked as you cannot work on your graduate degree unless you have already earned your undergraduate degree.
Yes, you need to submit your application. The application deadline applies to the applicant and not the recommenders/references. Your references/recommenders will be able to respond and upload their recommendation letters to your application after the deadline date.
No, recommendation letters should come from the recommenders themselves. If they have any issues or concerns with the emailed link, they can email their recommendation letter to segrad@tulane.edu and it will be uploaded to your application. Make sure they include your full name within the email so that the correct application will be updated.
No, but the department should have at least one faculty member who has a background and research in the area in which you are most interested in studying.
The GRE is not required.
These test score reports are optional. If you do not have a test score, please include in your personal statement how you meet the ESL proficiency requirement.
ESL Proficiency Requirement: TOEFL - Score 90 OR IELTS - Score 7 OR Undergraduate Degree Education taught at English Speaking University
You can report other ESL test score reports, but TOEFL and IELTS scores are the only scores that are accepted by Tulane School of Science and Engineering Graduate Programs.
We do not accept Duolingo test results.

* Because TOEFL and IELTS are not required, all international students who are accepted into a School of Science and Engineering PhD program must complete an online summer ESL Evaluation Course during the month of July. The 10 hours (2 week) assessment course will determine which students must take additional ESL courses during their first year of graduate studies (no exceptions).
Yes, you should take time to review the information regarding the graduate programs and admissions requirements that can be found on the department websites. Departments may have additional information that they require during the application process.
Deadlines for each program are different. Make sure to check the application deadline schedule. The deadline time is 11:59 PM Eastern time zone on the date that is given for the program.
You can check your status using the status portal that is created once you submit your application. Applications are typically reviewed after the application deadline date. Most graduate admissions decisions are made on or before April 15th.
