International Tax Office
If you are an international student being supported by or paid by Tulane University, you will need to complete your Glacier hiring form and if you have any other questions regarding taxes, you will need to reach out to the Tulane International Tax Office.
At the beginning of the semester is a good time to sit down with your department academic advisor to review your transcript and degree audit. If you have issues with your degree audit, you department needs to address those issues/concerns. Your defense should be at least 1 week prior to the date of conferral.
MS students require at least 30 credit hours and a 3.0 GPA in order to graduate. 30 credit hours are required with and without a thesis.
PhD students require at least 48 credit hours and a 3.0 GPA in order to graduate. PhD students should complete their Prospectus and be admitted into Candidacy at least 6 months prior to graduation. Your defense should be held at least 30 days prior to the date of conferral.

Guidelines for Thesis and Dissertations
PhD Applicants applying to graduate with their PhD, should have already completed their Prospectus Approval and Admission to Candidacy prior to applying to graduate. These forms must be completed 6 months prior to graduation and emailed to segrad@tulane.edu in the SSE Dean's Office.
All students applying to graduate, please check your student transcripts (and degree audit):
- MS degrees require a minimum 30 cumulative credit hours and a minimum 3.0 GPA in order to graduate (30 credits are required with and without a thesis)
- PhD degrees require a minimum of 48 credit hours and a minimum 3.0 GPA in order to graduate (please verify with your department/advisor that you have enough credit hours)
Defense of Paper Recommendation: Please plan your defense at least 2 weeks prior to the deadline date so that you have time to make corrections and collect signatures.
By the deadline date, please have the following completed if your degree requires a thesis/dissertation: (Hard Copies of papers are no longer required)
Email the proof of completion to segrad@tulane.edu for the checklist items listed below by the deadline date:
- Apply to Graduate - The Apply to Graduate link in on your Gibson Student Portal. If you do not see the link on your portal, please put in a support ticket to the Tulane Registrar's office. Application for Degree Instructions
- Signed Oral Defense Form (Electronic Signatures are Accepted)
- ProQuest - Upload a copy of your paper with signed signature pages to ProQuest (Electronic Signatures are Accepted)
- Tulane Digital Repository - Upload a copy of your paper with signed signature pages to Tulane Digital Repository (Electronic Signatures are Accepted)
- PhD Students ONLY when graduating with your PhD Degree - Completion Certificate from the Survey of Earned Doctorates

Full-Time Student Enrollment is a student is enrolled in 9 or more credit hours. When you are enrolled in 9 or more credit hours, you are automatically enrolled and charged full-time student fees. (Tuition and Fee information is on the Tulane Accounts Receivable website).
Full-Time Research Enrollment requires that a student is enrolled in a course with a 9980 or 9990 course number. Students are charged fees based on number of credits enrolled. Your access to various services on campus will be impacted when you are enrolled as a full time research student.
Enrollment is required each academic year.
TSHIP enrollment window information is on the Tulane Campus Health website. Tulane Student Health Insurance Plan (TSHIP) is not managed by Tulane but by a third party company – Gallagher. If you have missed the window to enroll (or opt out) of TSHIP, you will need to go to the TSHIP website and follow the instructions found on the website. The website also includes information about the plan and the coverage it provides to students.
Please note: IF you do not see TSHIP billed on your account (Fall and Spring billing), you are not enrolled in TSHIP. If you need to be enrolled in TSHIP, please go to the Tulane TSHIP website and follow instructions for enrollment.
