Courses

COSC 3000-01/6000-01: C++ Programming for Scientists and Engineers
This course begins with an introduction to C++ and will cover up to relatively sophisticated programming techniques including data structures, abstract data types, interfaces, and algorithms for sorting and searching. The goal is for the student to get a taste of the design and implementation of large programs. The goal is for the students to become proficient at programming in C++.

COSC 3200-01/6200-01: Large Scale Computation
This course introduces core topics in large-scale scientific computation. It underlines both theoretical and practical concepts, techniques and algorithms for large-scale and high performance computations. Topics include, high performance computing, iterative methods, discrete approximation, fast Fourier transform, Poisson solvers, particle methods, spectral and hierarchical clustering algorithms, and graph partitions. Students will gain both breadth and depth foundations in large-scale computation, theoretically and practically through CCS high speed supercomputer infrastructure and Unix cluster.

COSC/EBIO 6600-01: Computational Models of Biological Systems
The objective of this graduate course is to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary for computational modeling of biological and physiological systems. The first half of the course will cover introduction to UNIX, elements of programming (Matlab and Fortran), and numerical methods commonly used in biomedical research. The second half will immerse the students in specific biomedical applications including hemodynamics, respiratory flow, cellular mechanobiology, and neural dynamics. Most lectures will be accompanied by computer labs.
