Transfer Credit for Graduate Students

The Department of Mathematics allows up to 9 hours of graduate coursework to be transferred and counted toward the Ph.D. degree. Typically, only courses with substantial overlap with one of Tulane’s graduate mathematics courses will be accepted for transfer. The student should have received a grade of B or higher.

A student wishing to transfer graduate credits should follow the steps below:

  1. Collect information about the course, including course description, syllabus, textbook used, unofficial transcripts showing the grade received, sample homework assignments and/or exams, and any other relevant information.
  2. Discuss the request with the Director of Graduate Studies. If approved, the Director of Graduate Studies will provide the required transfer credit form.
  3. Complete and sign the form, have the Director of Graduate Studies and the Department Chair review and sign the form.
  4. Bring the completed signed form, course description, syllabus and unofficial transcripts to SSE Dean’s Office.
